In a pulsating clash, Cristiano Ronaldo reached 100 Champions League goals as Real overcame a heroic Bayern effort to make the semi-finals.

Real Madrid 4-2 Bayern Munich (6-3 agg): match report

Cristiano Ronaldo hit a hat-trick as Real Madrid defeated Bayern Munich in extra time to book a Champions League semi-final place.

The holders' seventh straight last-four berth is a new record, while Cristiano's treble saw him become the first player to reach a century of Champions League goals.

Entertaining evening - with question marks over officiating

Both sides can be thanked for serving up a pulsating, breathless night of European football at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday evening.

But it can't be denied that Real benefited from some contentious calls from referee Viktor Kassai and his team as they finally overcame a valiant Bayern effort.

Lewandowski penalty brings Bayern back into it

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, the Bavarians needed at least two to have a chance of qualifying, and got a first early in the second half when Casemiro was adjudged to have fouled the consistently menacing Arjen Robben in the box.

The returning Robert Lewandowski, who had missed last week's opening leg at the Allianz Arena, coolly beat goalkeeper Keylor Navas from 12 yards.

Real had begun the slower of the two teams before growing into a goalless first 45 in which both sides - particularly the hosts - created chances to score.

Cristiano heads in for Real, Ramos immediately nets own goal

Madrid then repeated that sluggish start in the second period, and Bayern were 1-0 up and had been on top when Cristiano met a Casemiro cross with a quarter of an hour remaining to equalise on the night and seemingly settle Los Blancos' nerves.

Just 36 seconds later, however, Zinedine Zidane's charges were stunned when captain Sergio Ramos turned the ball into his own net to level the tie at 3-3.

Vidal is sent off at the Bernabéu.

Vidal contentiously dismissed

Bayern were controversially reduced to 10 men late in the 90 when Arturo Vidal saw a second booking for a tackle on substitute Marco Asensio, despite clearly taking the ball.

Madrid score three in extra time to advance

With a numerical advantage, Real always looked the likely winners in extra time, and got their noses back in front at the end of the first half of the additional 30.

Ramos chipped a pass into the box to Cristiano, who chested down and finished low past Manuel Neuer - but replays showed the Portugal captain was offside.

Cristiano chalks up Champions League century

Five minutes later, the magnificent Marcelo sliced through the Bayern backline before squaring for Ronaldo to tap into an empty net, complete his hat-trick and put Los Merengues out of sight.

The strike saw the 32-year-old bring up 100 goals in the Champions League proper.

Asensio then rounded off a 6-3 aggregate victory with a wonderful individual goal, jinking past Mats Hummels and rolling a low finish past Neuer.

Champions League semi-final draw on Friday

Real Madrid's semi-final opponents will be revealed in Friday's draw in Nyon.

Asensio celebrates after netting Real's fourth - the goal of the night.

Here's how it happened at the Bernabéu:

Real Madrid 4-2 Bayern Munich (6-3 agg): second half half of extra time live stream online

Min 120 | Peeeep! That's it! Real Madrid are into the semi-finals!

Min 119 | Marcelo is again at the centre of a Real attack, the Brazilian feeding the ball to meet Casemiro's run into the right of the box. The midfielder's effort is well over, though.

Min 118 | Blimey what an evening.

Min 116 | Robben wins a free-kick on the right-hand corner of the Real box, and picks himself up to curl it in towards the back post. Hummels rises the highest, but the ball skims off his head and out for a goal-kick.

Min 114 | Mateo Kovacic is on for Madrid, with Kroos making way.

Min 112 | Gooooal! What a goal from Asensio! He runs at Hummels and Kimmich, jinks around the outside of the former Dortmund defender and into the right-hand side of the box, before rolling it low into the net across Neuer! The boy's a bit special.

Min 110 | Gooooal! Cristiano Ronaldo! Hat-trick for the Portugal captain and now he's on 100 in the Champions League proper! Marcelo slices through the Bayern defence all on his own and is in on Neuer. He could shoot, but unselfishly squares it for CR7, who taps it in!

Min 109 | And up we go to the other end, where Cristiano slips in Vázquez to cross from the byline...but Neuer clutches on to the ball.

Min 108 | Uff. Alaba cracks in a delicious cross from the left, which Müller is waiting to turn in at the near post - but Nacho is there to get to it out for a corner, which comes to zip.

Min 106 | That second Cristiano goal was his 100th in the Champions League (including the play-off round). He's on 99 if you only count the Champions League proper, i.e. from the group stage onwards.

Peeep! Back up and running.

Real Madrid 2-2 Bayern Munich (4-3 agg): first half of extra time live stream online

Peeeep! That's half time in extra time!

Min 105 | Goooooal! Cristiano Ronaldo puts Real back ahead in the tie! Ramos receives it outside the box, looks up, and dinks a pass into the forward - who is clearly offside when the ball was played. The flag stays down, and Ronaldo chests it down and fires into the net!

Min 103 | Costa wins a corner for Bayern, which Kimmich delivers. Hummels rises with Navas, and is adjudged to have fouled the Real keeper.

Min 100 | Robben is shown a yellow card for giving the assistant referee a little bit too much lip.

Min 99 | It's utterly end to end here. Real come back at Bayern, Vázquez playing it low from the left to Asensio in the box, where the youngster controls, turns and slips a cute little shot towards Neuer's near post. Moments later, Vázquez is again the provider to the near post - this time on the right - but Cristiano blasts it well wide.

Min 98 | Real are shouting for a penalty as Casemiro tumbles under the attentions of Boateng, but the ref says no, nein and non. The Brazilian was majorly looking for it. Bayern break and feed it to Costa, who sidefoots it across Navas' goal and wide.

Min 97 | Ronaldo gets it out of his feet and draws a smart stop from Neuer with a rasping drive, before it's recycled out to Marcelo, who also shoots - but it's across goal and wide. And it wouldn't have counted: CR7 was offside.

Min 96 | Bayern win a corner, but Ramos earns a free-kick for Real Madrid. Up the other end, Asensio is close to getting Cristiano in, but it's cut out.

Min 94 | Could we be heading towards a repeat of the penalty drama of these teams' 2011/12 semi-final? Real - and particularly Ramos - will be hoping it's not an exact repeat. That penalty is probably still rising.

Min 92 | Robben is immediately skipping into the Real Madrid box from the right flank, but Los Blancos get it clear. Kimmich then looks to twist and turn his way into a crossing position, but Casemiro blocks.

Peeep! Extra time is underway!

Real Madrid 1-2 Bayern Munich: second-half summary

When Cristiano nodded past Neuer, Real thought they'd survived a dreadful start to the second half that saw them concede a Lewandowski penalty. However, Ramos' own goal moments after that Ronaldo goal means it's 3-3 on aggregate and we'll need another 30 minutes - and possibly penalties - to separate the sides.

Real Madrid 1-2 Bayern Munich: second half live stream online

Peeeep! Into extra time we go!

Min 94 | Ramos it is who gets his head to Kroos' corner-kick delivery, but - for once - the skipper can't direct his effort on target.

Min 93 | Marcelo jinks and dances his way into a crossing position on the left, sending it over towards the back post - but it's cleared for a corner. Is it Ramos time?

Min 91 | ...and Modric has a chance to do just that from the edge of the box, but he skelps it over!

Min 90 | Four minutes of time added on. Without wishing to put some sort of Kevin Keegan-style commentator's jinx on Real, they look like the team to get a late winner if anyone's going to find one before extra time...

Min 89 | Asensio crosses low, but Bayern clear. Modric then slips it into Casemiro on the other side of the box, but the Brazilian can't pull it back to a white shirt.

Min 88 | Kimmich is on, and Lewandowski is off.

Min 86 | Bayern are preparing Joshua Kimmich.

Min 84 | Bayern are down to ten men! Vidal is penalised for bringing down Asensio, and he's got the honour of an early bath. Watching the replay, it looked like he got the ball, to be honest - hence his and his team-mates' evident displeasure at the call from Mr Kassai.

Min 82 | Lucas Vázquez fires it into the side-netting! Marcelo cuts in on the left and sends a ball over to the back stick, which Vázquez meets with a flying volley - but it's jut wide.

Min 79 | I say. Casemiro is lucky not to be given a second yellow card after chopping Robben there. The free-kick is cleared for a corner, which comes to nought. Moments later, the ball is helped on towards the back post, where Costa is almost there to pounce.

Min 78 | Asensio gets to the left byline and cuts it back for Marcelo, who fires it at goal first-time...but Neuer saves! It was right at him.

Min 77 | Gooooal for Bayern! They're immediately back ahead and as it stands we're heading into extra time! Ramos own goal! Nacho cuts out a cross from the right, the Real captain sticks a foot out at it, and succeeds only in turning it into the corner past Navas!

Min 76 | Gooooal for Real Madrid! Casemiro is almost falling over but flights over a cross to the back stick, where Cristiano is there to head past Neyer! But wait...

Min 75 | Hummels is booked for a foul on Modric, with the stop in play cuing a Bayern substitution. It's Xabi Alonso who's coming off, and the former Real midfielder is given a rousing ovation, which he responds to with applause for the home fans. Thomas Müller is on.

Min 73 | Oh Daniel, you greedy young man. Carvajal is suddenly bursting through on a backpedalling Bayern backline, with Asensio in acres of space to his left. Give it to him! Give it to him! He doesn't, and sees his shot blocked.

Min 71 | Both Zidane and Ancelotti shuffle their packs. Isco comes off for Lucas Vázquez for Real Madrid, while Douglas Costa is on for Ribery for the guests. Alonso was booked for fouling Isco moments before the Spaniard was withdrawn, by the way.

Min 69 | Kroos slips in Cristiano, who's deemed offside. And, like Lewandowski, he appears not to have been. Lewandowski then almost bundles his way into a close-range shooting position after an almighty scramble in the Real box. Strewth. Hearts were in mouths among the home fans there.

Min 67 | Up the other end, Asensio crosses low - but it's meat and drink for Neuer.

Min 66 | Boateng sends a lovely long pass over the top for Lewandowski, who's in - but is flagged offside. The Pole wags his finger in disagreement, and well he might: replays seem to suggest he was being played on by Marcelo.

Min 64 | Zidane makes his first change, Benzema coming off for Marco Asensio. Real need to wake up, and fast.

Min 61 | Bayern win a corner, and Real clear; but the visitors win it straight back again and feed it to Robben on the right, where the winger clips a cross in with his weaker foot that Nacho has to be very alert to nod away before Lewandowski gets onto it. Although it wouldn't have counted: the referee blows for a foul on the centre-back,  Moments later, Alaba has a chance to control and shoot at the back of the box, but a white shirt is there to get in a desperate block.

Min 59 | Just as was the case in the first half, Real have started really sloppily. They're still going through on away goals as it stands, but they're very much second best right now.

Min 58 | Bayern come again, a Lahm cross from the right falling to Ribery at the far post, with the Frenchman unable to quite get over the bouncing ball and seeing his volley float into Navas' grateful hands.

Min 55 | TV replays have just shown that Robben's earlier chance didn't come close to crossing the line before being headed away by Marcelo. Speaking of the Brazilian, he fires it low across the Bayern box but a white shirt can't get on the end of it.

Min 54 | Blimey. Bayern could very easily have had a second in two minutes. Fresh from winning the penalty, Robben cuts inside on the right and dinks it into the box to meet the run of Vidal, who's in a great position - but the Chilean's volley is over!

Min 53 | Goooal to Bayern! Lewandowski steps up to take the spot-kick...and knocks it nonchalantly past Navas! Bayern are right back in it!

Min 52 | Penalty to Bayern! Casemiro is penalised for bringing down Robben on the left-hand side of the box!

Min 50 | And now Bayern are almost ahead! Alaba cuts it back for Robben, who's in loads of space, but the ball is played a little behind him. He just manages to wrap his left foot round it, dinking it - almost in slow motion - towards goal - but Marcelo is there to head off the line!

Min 49 | The corner is taken short to Isco, who flights it towards the back post, where Hummels nods it behind for another. The second corner is headed out only as far as Isco on the edge of the box, the midfielder chesting it down and firing it towards goal...but just wide!

Min 47 | Casemiro is upended on the corner of the box - by Vidal, who is already on a yellow. As you can imagine, the hosts are politely suggesting to Mr Kassai that the tackle might be worthy of a second caution, but he says nope. Cristiano delivers...but it's cleared out for a corner.

Peeeep! Back up and running at the Bernabéu. No changes.

Real Madrid 0-0 Bayern Munich: first-half summary

Let me consult my live-feed thesaurus: breathless, intense, entertaining, absorbing. Both sides have had their chances, particularly Real as the period progressed, but it remains goalless at the break. Bayern had much the better of the first 20 minutes but Madrid grew into the half and, as things stand, are heading for a seventh straight semi-final place. The Bavarians need to find two in the second 45.

Real Madrid 0-0 Bayern Munich: first half live stream online

Min 45 | Peeeep! Time for a cuppa and a half-time orange.

Min 44 | Another shooting opportunity falls to Kroos just outside of the box: will it be third time lucky? No. He passes it straight to his international colleague in the Bayern goal.

Min 42 | Ronaldo shoots...over! Marcelo leads the Real break, gets to the edge of the box and, via a mini-bout of trickery, touches it to his left to the forward, who gets it out of his feet but can only sky it! Bayern swiftly get it up the other end for Lewandowski to make his way into the 18-yard area -  but Ramos and Modric crowd him out.

Min 40 | Bayern win a free-kick that's about 35 yards out, but that doesn't faze Alaba. The Austrian steps up to strike it with whistles ringing out around the Bernabéu...but it's well over! Cue waheys all round from the home support. Casemiro was booked for the foul that gave away that free, by the way.

Min 39 | And there's another chance for Kroos! Marcelo touches it to the midfielder with the arriving in space in the box to shoot - but it's blocked!

Min 37 | Blimey, this is intense. First Real break, Cristiano steaming forward and shooting from an angle when he should probably have sought to find Benzema in the middle. Then Bayern scamper up the other end, forcing Real to desperately get it out for a corner, which Vidal eventually heads over.

Min 35 | Close! Kroos should do better! Alaba gets himself in a tangle on his byline and loses it to Carvajal, who exchanges passes with Benzema before laying it off to the German, who is in acres on the edge of the box. But his shot is over!

Min 34 | Marcelo cuts it back for Ronaldo, who looks to create the space to shoot before finally deciding to return it to the lef-back. He pings a cross back into the box, whcih CR7 launches himself at - but Hummels is there to clear.

Min 32 | Modric crosses for Cristiano, but it's just too high for the forward!

Min 30 | It's end to end now, Ribery winning a free-kick for Xabi Alonso to swing in from the left. But his delivery is uncharacteristically ropey.

Min 28 | There's another good chance for Real Madrid! Carvajal is again involved, centring low and seeing his cross palmed out by Neuer, but only as a far as Ramos in space just inside the box - but the defender's shot is cleared by Boateng underneath the posts!

Min 26 | Close! This is more like it from Real. Kroos feeds Benzema, who plays it forward to Cristiano. He looks up and locates the run of right-back Dani Carvajal, who drives a low shot towards Manuel Neuer's far corner, only for the keeper to push it wide! The referee somehow contrives to give a goal-kick, which Real are not happy with.

Min 23 | Real Madrid get a hold of the ball and enjoy a very welcome, prolonged spell of possession, before carving out a chance for Benzema! Marcelo's first cross is blocked, but the Brazilian retrieves the ball and sends it over to the Frenchman, whose glancing header bounces wide!

Min 21 | Alaba crosses from the left, Lahm crosses from the right, Alaba heads it back into the danger area...and finally Real get it clear. Then Jerome Boateng overhits a long pass to Ribery on the left, and the hosts have a breather.

Min 20 | Zidane won't be liking what he's seeing. Bayern have started much the better.

Min 16 | Ufff, Real are almost undone. Ramos heads it down to Casemiro, whose control is loose enough for Thiago to nip and launch a counter, which for a moment appears to have Robben through on goal. But Navas is on his toes and is to get to the ball before the ex-Real man and clear. That was close - Robben is the last man you want to find yourself in a foot race with.

Min 15 | Now it's Real Madrid's turn. Marcelo scuttles towards the byline and knocks it low into the box, but it's out for a corner, which is cleared.

Min 12 | Bayern are looking really, really threatening. Lahm slips Robben into the box on the right, the Dutchamn looking to play it across goal but seeing his centre deflected out for a corner. The ball then finally falls to Vidal on the edge of the box, the Chilean winding up to shoot towards Navas' top corner - but it's just over.

Min 9 |  Double chance for Bayern! That's a let-off for Real. Alaba plays in Franck Ribery on the left-hand side of the box. The Frenchman centres low towards Thiago Alcántara, who shoots - but sees his effort blocked by Marcelo in front of goal. However, it spins loose to Robben, who has a clear sight of goal - but he skews it into the side-netting.

Min 8 | Bayern come back at Real, Philipp Lahm crossing for Robert Lewandowski - but the Pole can't quite get his head on it.

Min 6 | Cristiano Ronaldo stands over the free-kick...but pings it straight at the Bayern wall.

Min 5 | Arjen Robben wins a corner for Bayern, but it comes to nought. And up the other end, Arturo Vidal chops Isco on the edge of the box and the hosts have a dangerous free-kick! Yellow card for Vidal, who'll miss the first leg of the semi-finals if Bayern make it.

Min 3 | You know the Champions League is reaching the business end when it's still light at kick-off. Ooh, and here's Real's first chance to go at the Bayern backline: Isco robs Xabi Alonso and scampers at the Germans before feeding Cristiano Ronaldo on the corner of the box - but the Portuguese is dispossessed by Mats Hummels and the opportunity is lost.

Min 2 | Bayern with the first attack of substance, David Alaba whipping in a cross that ends up safely in the arms of Keylor Navas.

Peeep! Mr Kassai blows his whistle and we are off!

One min to kick-off | Another big game, another big tifo: this time the Real Madrid fans unfurl a banner reading "The road to Cardiff".

Three mins to kick-off | The teams are out! Anthem time. You know how it goes.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich: live stream latest news

20:40 | Real may be a dab hand at locating the onion bag, but they are yet to keep a clean sheet in the Champions League this season, note stats gurus Opta. Cause for optimism for Bayern, who need to score two at the very least to have any chance of advancing.

20:32 | Oh, and Real can also extend their Spanish-record run of scoring in consecutive games to 55 tonight. And Cristiano is three off 100 goals in the Champions League proper (group stage to final). You can just go on and on with these two clubs.

20:30 | Continuing on the topic of records, Bayern are in an unprecedented 16th quarter-final appearance in the competition.

20:27 | Speaking of records: if Real Madrid qualify for the semi-finals, they'll have sealed a tournament-high seventh straight last-four appearance. If Bayern go through, it'll be their sixth semi in a row - which ain't too shabby either, to be fair.

20:20 | Real Madrid bench: Casilla, James, Kovacic, Lucas, Asensio, Morata and Danilo. Bayern Munich bench: Ulreich, Bernat, Kimmich, Costa, Rafinha, Coman and Müller.

20:18 | Here's a video of the Real Madrid team bus's arrival at the Bernabéu earlier this evening, in case you're interested.

20:16 | The sides' head-to-head record in their previous 23 match-ups?

20:15 | So, half an hour to go until the teams' 24th meeting in the European Cup/Champions League. That's a record, not altogether surprisingly.

20:10 | One thing's for sure: Carlo Ancelotti will be well rested.

20:08 | Don't forget that we've also got a live feed of Leicester City vs Atlético Madrid. You can join Andy for all the happenings in that second-leg clash.

20:05 | The XIs are also in at the King Power Stadium - here's more on that team news.

19:50 | Pictures are in of the Real Madrid fans' welcome for the team bus on its arrival at the Bernabéu (above). Following events in Dortmund last week, security around that was understandably tighter.

19:45 | The line-ups are in (see above). The headlines are that Isco starts for Real Madrid, while Robert Lewandowski is back for Bayern Munich. We have the full lowdown on tonight's team news here.

19:20 | Oh, and Kassai was also the fourth official for last season's final in Milan. That turned out OK for Zizou's men too...

19:15 | Hungary's Viktor Kassai is the referee for this evening's clash, which might just be an omen of the positive variety for the hosts: the last Real Madrid match he took charge of was a Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Bernabéu, this time last year - which, of course, saw Los Blancos blitz Wolfsburg 3-0 to qualify for the last four.

19:05 | The team sheets should be pinned to the Bernabéu notice board in about three quarters of an hour or so, and we'll be bringing you news on that as soon as it comes in. AS.com readers have had their chance to vote for Zinedine Zidane's starting XI - and, unsurprisingly, a certain bearded, bow-legged twinkle-toes is the fans' choice to replace the injured Gareth Bale.

19:00 | The Real Madrid squad have just left their Ciudad Real Madrid training complex, and their shiny white bus is now wending its merry way towards the Bernabéu, where it's fair to say there are more than a couple of fans waiting for them.

18:58 | Incidentally, there are a couple of milestones in the offing in the Real ranks: Marcelo is set for his 400th appearance for Los Blancos, while captain Sergio Ramos will bring up a century of games in the Champions League.

18:50 | Back in Madrid, Real fans have been gathering on the streets around the Bernabéu to welcome the team bus to the stadium, using the Twitter hastag #QuedadaBlanca. When the squad arrive, it should look something like this.

18:45 | ...and here's the info you need on how and where to watch the Foxes' bid to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit at the King Power Stadium. While you follow events at the Bernabéu on our live feed, obviously.

18:40 | And don't forget that we've also got a live feed of Atlético Madrid's last-eight return at Leicester City - Andy is in the hotseat as we speak, so you can join him for all the build-up...

18:30 | Just over two hours to go until kick-off: here's a reminder of how and where to watch this evening's Champions League quarter-final second leg in Madrid.

18:00 | Carlo Ancelotti is under no illusions about Real Madrid's goal threat but as the former Bernabéu boss noted in his pre-match press conference, keeping a clean sheet is more of a problem for Zinedine Zidane's side.

17:30 | Bayern's top scorer Robert Lewandowski missed the first leg with a shoulder injury but has been passed fit to play in the Bernabéu tonight.

17:00 | Cristiano Ronaldo bagged both goals in the opening leg in the Allianz Arena, bringing an end to a Champions League drought of over 600 minutes. This video outlines how the Portuguese forward has evolved from a goalscorer to a provider since during his time at the Bernabéu.

16:15 | Iker Casillas believes Real Madrid deserve to win the league title this season and also revealed how his relationship with José Mourinho deteriorated dueing their coincidence at the Bernabéu in an interview with Movistar.

15:45 | He is one of Real Madrid's captains and a firm favourite with the Bernabéu crowd, but Marcelo has hinted he may well return to Brazil to play for Botafogo before he retires...

15:15 | Sergio Ramos, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric will have to be careful tonight in the Bernabéu. All three are one caution away from missing a potential semi-final.

14:50 | What do we think, we hear you ask? Well, we rather like the sound of Cristiano Ronaldo to bother the onion bag first and Real Madrid to win 2-1 at 23/1.

14:45 | There are some enhanced odds on tonight's game, with prices of 5/1 on Real Madrid to qualify.

14:08 | Can Bayern break the statistic? All five previous teams winning 2-1 away from home in the first leg of their Champions League knockout tie have progressed to the next round.

13:42 | Of course, tactics for tonight's game are likely to be significantly influenced by last week's first leg. What do you mean you can't remember what happened? OK, let us talk you through it.

13:33 | There is no doubting Bayern's threat tonight but Madrid fans will point to the fact that they have lost eight of their last 10 away games against Real Madrid in all competitions, including the last five. They won the other two. Thanks Opta Jose!

13:17 | The AS journalist who wears his club heart firmly on his sleeve, Tomás Roncero, wrote recently about the dangers of the big Polish striker.

12:55 | The big injury news for Bayern is that star striker Robert Lewandowski has now recovered and is expected to start.

12:36 | ...although we don't have the answer to who will come in against Bayern, at least Zidane is clear. We'll wait patiently to find out, just like Ancelotti will have to.

12:24 | Real Madrid will be without Gareth Bale this evening (out with another injury) so one of the big questions is who will replace him and what formation Zidane will go with.

11:58 | AS editor Alfredo Relaño has already had his say on the game tonight, one in which he's hopeful Madrid can take one step ahead of their historically significant European rivals.

11:45 | The build-up to a huge night of football starts here. Read the preview below to get a feel for the occasion and stay with us throughout the day as we keep you informed of news related to the game at the Bernabéu....just nine hours to go!

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich: match preview

Real host Bayern in the deciding leg of a tie between two sides at the centre of a continental rivalry widely considered to be the fiercest around. Thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo double in what truly was a game of two halves, Los Blancos hold a 2-1 advantage from last week's first leg in Munich.

Real Madrid

The tournament holders face Bayern fresh from taking a step closer to a first LaLiga title in five years with victory at Sporting Gijón on Saturday. Boss Zinedine Zidane named a much-changed side at El Molinón with one eye on Bayern, and will welcome back a host of players tonight.

Among those kept back was Cristiano Ronaldo, whose brace in Germany saw him become the first player to reach 100 career goals in European club competitionsGareth Bale missed the win in Gijón after picking up a calf injury at the Allianz Arena last Wednesday - joining defenders Pepe and Raphael Varane in the Real sickbay - and hasn't recovered in time for Bayern's visit.

And after a two-goal, match-winning display against Sporting, there have been widespread calls for Isco to start in his stead, with participants in an AS.com poll urging Zidane to go with the Spaniard in a 4-4-2 formation. However, Zidane was keeping his cards close to his chest on Monday, commenting: "I've decided who will replace Bale, but I can't say any more."

Bayern Munich

Bayern's ex-Real boss, Carlo Ancelotti, is back at the Bernabéu for the first time since the end of his tenure in Spain - one that saw him deliver the club's 10th European Cup.

The Bavarians come into the clash after a 0-0 weekend draw at Bayer Leverkusen in which, like Zidane, Ancelotti made changes - albeit fewer than the Frenchman's nine. Among those rested were Xabi Alonso, who is also back at his former home ground, having likewise helped Madrid to 'La Décima' glory three years ago. Robert Lewandowski missed the first leg with a shoulder injury but is set to play, with Ancelotti telling his pre-match press conference that the striker is "all good".

Meanwhile, Bayern will be without the banned Javi Martínez after his opening-leg red card, and Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels are fitness doubts. Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday evening, however, Ancelotti was optimistic on the defensive duo's chances of being fit.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich: match facts

Los Merengues have won four out of their last five matches against Bayern in the Champions League.

Bayern haven't won at the Bernabéu since back in May 2001 - and even that result, a 1-0 victory, wouldn't be enough to see them go through.
