The image of Carmena and Ramos...

Update:

The city Madrid was a hive of activity on Sunday with Atlético saying goodbye to the Calderon in a moving occasion, Real Madrid winning the league title in Málaga and main Spanish opposition party PSOE re-elected Pedro Sanchez. A day later the Madrid squad underwent the traditional institutional visit to city hall whilst that evening the President of the local Catalan government Puigdemont that announced plans for an independence referendum were commencing. Madrid was at the heart of it all with the city fresh from celebrating it's annual patron saint San Isidro festivities.

Unnecessary chants

Football is a escape valve for so many and a game that may find frivolous. It's a sport I love, except when it provokes insults. Real Madrid's title celebrations for me were tarnished by the chants aimed at Barca defender Piqué along with the songs aimed at the Atleti supporters. Are these really necessary? I know you're all going to say that at Camp Nou Míchel and Real Madrid were insulted and that too is totally uncalled for. When celebrating a win, why not just focus on the merit and effort rather than look for something or someone to insult? One day, we'll overcome this, one day celebration will be just that, joy without the need to disrespect.

The good of the game

At the same time I'd imagine there isa perverse satisfaction for Gerard Piqué knowing that he has affected Real Madrid fans enough to chant about him and at the same time there is nothing but respect respect for all Atlético fans who paid their last respects to the stadium on the banks of the Manzanares river. Each supporter would have witnessed countless wins and defeats at the old ground but it will be that first game, maybe as a child that would have been the enduring memory for many. Once again, I'd prefer to focus on the good side of football. Messi's last goal rather than Piqué's last outburst; the incredible emotion on display at the Calderón and the image of Manuela Carmena and Sergio Ramos. That's the essence of football.
