The Spanish striker finally opted for Everton after feeling that his game-time would be limited by El Niño's prominent place in the club's pecking order.

El Niño's contract extension

Fernando Torres is set to renew his contract at Atlético Madrid in the coming days, continuing alongside Griezmann and Gameiro in the hunt for goals. El Niño's continued presence at the club, however, has reportedly had a major say in Sandro's decision to sign for Everton

A prominent role last season

Local boy Torres' influence at Atlético is well documented, and the Spanish striker ended last season playing regularly as a starter - Atleti's biggest matches were played with a Griezmann-Torres pairing. Last year, El Niño disputed 45 official games (31 in LaLiga, five in the Copa del Rey and nine in the Champions League), scoring ten goals in the process. The aim of the club is to bring back Diego Costa - a deal which will be far from easy - in the January transfer window, thus bolstering the rojoblanco attack.

Sandro's desire to build on last season

Sandro's decision to sign for Ronald Koeman's side was also based on the fine season he enjoyed at Málaga last year and his desire to build on it in the coming campaign and beyond. The Spanish striker recently held talks with the Atlético board but admitted that his aim of playing at least 25 games a season would be difficult with Torres in the fold.
