After the runaway success of the first season of House of the Dragon, HBO Max is preparing to release the second instalment of the Game of Thrones spin-off.
Season one of the show, which is based on the book Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, premiered with a record HBO audience for a new original series. Now, the arrival of the opener in the programme’s second run of episodes is the subject of huge anticipation.
What is House of the Dragon about?
Taking place around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the storyline in House of the Dragon focuses on the origins of House Targaryen, which remained in power for three centuries. As can be seen in the first official trailer for the latest instalment of the series, viewers of the second season will be immersed in a civil war that breaks out in House Targaryen.

The second season of House of the Dragon will premiere worldwide on Sunday 16 June 2024. According to IMDb, it will feature a total of eight episodes, which will be released weekly:
