Polls in Arizona are closed, and the results are rolling in. It is very early, and leads could change as more ballots are counted in the Grand Canyon State. Pre-election polling suggests the Senate’s key governor and Senate races will be incredibly close, and it could days for a final result to be called.

In addition to those roles, five of the state’s nine House of Representatives races are in play for both parties.

We will be updating this article as more results are released. Follow all the latest news from the midterms with Election Day 2022: Live

Governor

The race for the Arizona governor’s office captures the state of play in American politics better than perhaps any other state in the 2022 midterm elections. Both candidates - Democrat Katie Hobbs and Republican Kari Lake - are running for the first time, but have risen to public notice for their response to the 2020 presidential election.

Hobbs served as Arizona’s top elections officer and fought against former President Trump’s efforts to overturn the result. Whereas Lake, a former Fox News reporter, has voiced her own concerns about the legitimacy of the 2020 election and repeatedly refused to confirm that she would accept the result in 2022 if she was defeated. With Hobbs leading, Lake began to sew doubt that the election was legitimate... a dangerous move considering there is still room for her to keep up.

Final results are not expected until Wednesday or Thursday as the state will be busy counting millions of mail-in ballots. With sixty-two percent of the vote counted, the race has narrowed significantly.

Senate

Another Republican candidate to benefit from Donald Trump’s endorsement was Blake Masters, who faces incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly. The Democrats boasted a significant financial advantage during campaigning, and this is a Senate seat that the party simply cannot afford to lose.

With two-thirds of the vote counted, Kelly’s lead has shrunk, from over twenty points to just five percentage points.

House

Arizona is divided into nine congressional districts, each of which will elect its representatives for the 118th Congress. Ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, there were five Democrats and four Republican members in the Arizona delegation.
