The New England Patriots will face the Draft with multiple needs to rebuild one of the oldest squads in the league. The powers that be at franchise say it is willing to do whatever it takes to put together the best possible team for the 2024 NFL season.

Eliot Wolf, the Pats’ scouting director, stated in a press conference that the AFC East team is willing to trade all of its draft picks if that means improving the roster.

Pats are “open for business”

“It’s ongoing, we’re open to anything, moving up, moving down,” Wolf said. “We’re open for business in the first round and in every round. We have some holes that we feel we need to fill in the draft and and we are a draft and develop team - the more picks we have, the better, but if there’s an opportunity to strike and if the board recommends it, then we won’t be afraid to pull the trigger on that either.”

Currently, the Patriots have the third overall pick in the Draft and are likely to take one of the best quarterbacks available to start a new era in New England led by new head coach Jerod Mayo.

Among the quarterback candidates available to the Patriots for that pick are North Carolina Tar Heels’ Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels, of the LSU Tigers. If they trade to accumulate more picks, they could find Bo Nix of the Oregon Ducks or Washington Huskies QB Michael Penix Jr after the first round. “I think that’s fair,” Wolf explained, “And I think you could open it up to some other names as well. I think we’d be comfortable with [picking a quarterback at three overall].”

New England's other needs are at wide receiver and offensive tackle. The class of 2024 in terms of WRs is one of the best in recent times and they could find someone reliable at second or third round.

What are the Patriots’ picks in the 2024 draft?

In addition to the third overall pick, the Patriots have seven other picks. In the second round they will choose in the second position, 34th overall and in the third round they will choose in the fourth position, 68th overall.

In the fourth round they will select third, with the 103rd, and in the fifth second, with the 137th. New England has two sixth-round picks, at position 180th, which is its own, and at 193rd, which belonged to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The last selection is the 231st, from the seventh round, which was obtained through the 2022 trade in which they sent N’Keal Harry to the Chicago Bears.
