Sankt Pauli play league leaders RB Leipzig tomorrow night at their Millerntor stadium in Hamburg and the club have announced that traditional team shirt sponsor Congstar will be replaced with the message: "Kein Fussball den Faschisten" (No Football for Fascists). Both traditional sponsor Congstar and the German Federation have approved the move.
The initiative ties in with a series of events organized by the club and its supporters linking in with the recent International Holocaust Remembrance Day which was celebrated in Germany on January 27. As the second tier of German football was on its winter break at the time, the club and supporters chose this weekend’s game to carry out their series of tributes.
FC Sankt Pauli and their supporters have a long tradition in fighting against fascism, racism and discrimination as well as being actively involved in helping refugees in the Northern German city.
The club has prepared a massive banner carrying the shirt slogan which will be displayed in one of the Millerntor main stands ahead of tomorrow’s match. The Hamburg based club announced in their communique that the slogan is synonymous with the views of both club and its support base.
