Oblak earns 300,000 euros a year to play five games
Football Leaks: In his previous Atlético contract, which was recently renewed, the Slovenian’s fixed salary was set at 1.5 million net per year.
'Football Leaks' continues to expose recent, big-money football contracts. Following on from the likes of Bale, Ozil and De Gea, the details of the Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s move from Benfica have now been published. According to the leaked document, the transfer specifies that the amount payable was 16 million euros, which was paid entirely by Atlético within just two business days of the signing place. Interestingly, a right of first refusal was kept by Benfica if the player was to receive an offer from another Portuguese club or if Atlético and Oblak decided to part company – and they also stated the right to be informed of any offer received for him within two days of it being made. The penalty for violation of this was 10 million euros and it could be deemed payable by the player if he was responsible for the breach.
The contract between club and player, specified the duration as six seasons taking it up until the year 2020. During this period the buy-out clause was 47 million euros. Just a few days ago this was extended an extra year to 2021, with an improved salary and an increased buy-out clause, which is believed now to be approaching 100 million. The salary for each of those seasons in the contract released is 1.5 million net, and they carry a bonus payment of 300,000 euros if a minimum of 45 minutes is played in five official matches. Clearly this is a very attainable goal for Oblak in the form he’s been in, so would bring his salary to 1.8 million net per year – prior to the recent changes.
The contract does include a penalty clause in case the player is found guilty of doping. In this case Atlético could terminate the contract without paying any compensation or keep him on their books for the duration of the sanctions but only paying the minimum wage based on the collective agreement defined by LaLiga.
