There has been a storm of angry reaction to the Dutch PSV fans who humiliated a group beggars in the centre of Madrid before the Champions League second-leg tie with Atlético.

The embarrassing images have prompted an apology by the Dutch embassy to Spain, who distanced themselves from the behaviour and on Wednesday, and the Movimiento contra la Intolerancia - Movement against Intolerance - put pressure on UEFA authorities repsonsible for hate crimes to take measures against the "racist humiliation" that was seen before the match.

Calls have been made in Spain to identify the individuals involved and punish them accordingly. The beggars were subjected to degradation by fans wearing PSV shirts, fans threw coins to the group of beggars and laughed while the women scrambled to pick them up, then gave them small sums of money to do press-ups on the ground, while fans stood, laughed and recorded the scene with their mobile phones.

Spanish authorities in the Interior Ministry have also joined the call for the aggressors to be identified and duly charged, and the Dutch club has called it "outrageous behaviour" in a video address by their general manager, adding "If we find them they will have some serious problems. And we will consider banning orders or worse".
