Champions League quarter-final draw to be held on Friday

After the thrill of qualification for the quarter-finals, the eight teams now await their fates at the hands of UEFA’s spinning balls in the draw to be held this Friday, 18 March, in Nyon, Switzerland at the organisation's headquarters.

One of the major changes to proceedings will be in the shape of the individual in charge: Gianni Infantino and his legendary brand of 'humour' have moved on and up - he's now the president of FIFA - meaning his former assistant Giorgio Marchetti has been promoted and will be running the show. Marchetti is Uefa's director of competitions. He'll be joined by Gianluca Zambrotta for the Champions League draw (and Sebastian Frei for the Europa League draw, taking place at the same event).

The draw will be completely free, meaning teams from the same country can meet each other.

The teams qualified are:

Atlético Madrid

Real Madrid

Barcelona

Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich

Manchester City

PSG

Benfica

Spain dominate with three teams, while Germany have two, although it looked like being just one until Bayern’s incredible comeback to force injury time, where they won against Juventus. England, Portugal and France have one side each.

The draw on Friday will be only for the quarter-finals, with the semi-final draw taking place on 15 April. The first leg of the quarter-finals will be played on 5 and 6 April, with the returns on 12 and 13.

Here's Infantino in action, back in the day (you can spot Marchetti on the right too). Put the subtitles on if you can't hear him!
