Cristiano Ronaldo’s strike against Eibar was his 30th of the league season. The Portuguese has now scored 30 times or more in six consecutive seasons at Real Madrid, only failing to reach the same figure in his first campaign in the Spanish capital when he scored 26 in 29 Liga matches. This season Ronaldo’s goals per game ratio is 0.93 in the league and he leads the running for the European Golden Boot award, ahead of Benfica’s Jonas and Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuaín. Ronaldo has won the award four times during his Real career, more than any other player in history.

Over the course of the last 10 years, only Leo Messi has come close to achieving the same feat. The Argentinean reached 30 goals per season four times for Barcelona, and other than that Diego Forlán (32 in 2008-09) and Samuel Eto’o (30 in the same season) are the only other players to achieve the feat over the last decade.
