The world's press were unanimous in their judgement of Cristiano's heoric display against Wolfsburg last night with many choosing to run the story on their front cover. "One of the all-time greats of Real Madrid", ran one headline, "Cristiano slipped on his superhero costume", another. In Germany, Bild and Kicker rued a missed opportunity: "Wolfsburg committed too many mistakes", said one, "The much-anticipated away goal never arrived".

La Gazzetta dello Sport (Italy): "Ronaldo Madness. Hat trick and Real bounce back. On to the Semi-finals!". "If Piqué had been watching the game, he may well reconsider his view of Cristiano as the best of the humans and include him in the alien category with Messi... The comeback was fashioned in 60 seconds - the time it took for Cristiano to get the first goal and the second... This isn't Zidane's Real Madrid, it's Cristiano's".

L'Équipe (France): "Comeback signed sealed and delivered by Ronaldo". "Despite the heavy rainfall, Zidane spent the game out of the comfort of his dug-out, telling his players to play their game and not succumb to nerves... Madrid dominated, taking sole control of the ball and were steady at the back to avoid a goal on the break like what occurred in the first leg... Cristiano was man of the match although he owes one to Naldo and Guilavogui..."

Bild (Germany): "1, 2, 3, Ronaldo!". "Goals from the giant Cristiano destroyed Wolfsburg's dreams... Bild were expected a 'K.O.Naldo', but the Portuguese players reserved himself for an incredible night. Respect... Wolfsburg made too many mistakes, as Arnold admitted: 'I can only say sorry, I should have done things differently', he explained about the opening goal".

Kicker (Germany): "Cristiano was too much for Wolfsburg". "The semi-final dream is over... the away goal which Wolfsburg required never arrived".

Daily Mail (England): "Cristiano scores when it matters"."The Santiago Bernabeu has not always appreciated him and there are still some at the club who believe this summer could be the right time to sell him – most would argue after this performance that he remains priceless... It capped a one-man show that had been extraordinary even by his standards and will go down as one of the best individual displays seen in the old stadium".

O Jogo (Portugal): "Cristiano Hat trick". "He turned the tie around; his three goals ghanding Real Madrid victory".

Récord (Mexico): "From Cristiano, for the believers". "A memorable performance from CR7... the home team came out with all guns blazing and took no time for their domination to be reflected on the score board".

El País: "Cristiano is too much for Wolfsburgo". "Cristiano rolled up his sleeves and got straight down to work; the result was Wolfsburg being hit by a cyclone... it wasn't just about his three goals, there was much more to his genius display... fired up from the first moment, it was lamost as though he was on a personal crusade".

Mundo Deportivo: "Cristiano hauls Madrid into the semi-final". "The Portuguese forward is on course to inherit the ‘Spirit of Juanito’ tag because out of all of Madrid's players on the night, he was the driving force".

Sport: "Cristiano slips into his superhero costume". "Real Madrid experienced an epic night, just as they had hoped... Cristiano Ronaldo put on his Superhero suit and hit a hat trick to save the team and avoid a disaster... he celebrated like we've never seen before, conscious that this was an opportunity to put himself in the spotlight and asume the prominence which he enjoys so much".
