The Champions League brought out the best in Real Madrid last night. Post-match data released by UEFA's statistics department after yesterday's game against Manchester City showed just how hard Zidane's side worked to come away from the Etihad with a goalless draw - out of the 10 players who started the game, eight covered 10 kilometres or more during the 90 minutes. Only Marcelo, who racked up 9.6 km and Benzema, who was taken off at half-time, didn't manage to get into double figures.

Lucas Vázquez meanwhile, covered more ground than anyone: the Galician winger ran 13,323 metres, almost two kilometres more than the second player to cover the most distance during the match, Kevin De Bruyne who totalled 11.6 kilometres. Lucas Vázquez, who entered the XI to replace Cristiano, continues to make the most of the opportunities he's getting and shows a tremendous work ethic. In Paris he was also the player to do all the running in Madrid's Last 16 meeting with PSG.

Catch him if you can. Luka Modric.

For total distance covered last night, City edged their guests, covering a combined 113,177 kilometres, slightly more than the 112.691 registered by Real Madrid.

It was just as even in terms of ball possession: City clocking 48%, Madrid, 52%. As for passing, City pulled off 399 successful passes from 486 (82%) while 510 of the 589 passes which Real Madrid made reached their destination (87%). Luka Modric was the player who saw most of the ball last night: he received the ball 71 times and enjoyed a 92% success rate in playing the ball on to his team mates.
