Casillas sends a message to Real Madrid about player send-offs.

During a chat with fans on Facebook the Porto goalkeeper launched into a rant about how every Real Madrid player deserves a send-off similar to Arbeloa's on Sunday.

Porto shot-stopper Iker Casillas posted a video on Facebook yesterday to answer questions from his fans. Before launching into the task at hand though, the World Cup-winning captain assessed the LaLiga run-in and thanked his former Real Madrid and international team-mate Álvaro Arbeloa for his loyal service to the Merengue cause. However, the Mostoles native also took the opportunity to send a not-so-veiled message to the Madrid club with regards to the differing farewells afforded to players. Given Casillas’ legacy at the Bernabéu, many thought his exit last summer was handled atrociously by the club as he was left to conduct a press conference on his own while his team-mates were on a preseason tour.

“One of my old team-mates, Álvaro, has finished with Real Madrid. I would like to thank him for everything he has given the club. Álvaro was a product of the youth academy and had to go elsewhere to prove he had the necessary quality to return and play for Real Madrid. Every Real Madrid player deserves this kind of send-off, accompanied by their team-mates and the fans. I’m grateful for everything he has given the team and I wish him all the best ahead of this new chapter in his life”.

Casillas also took some time to send a farewell message to another former team-mate who announced his retirement on Saturday: “This has been a week of goodbyes. Valerón was a team-mate, an opponent and a friend. 40 years old! What can you say about el flaco (the skinny one)?! Thank you. Football will lose a truly fantastic player and a great person”.
