Fernando Torres’ future at Atlético Madrid will be made clear in the upcoming days. Negotiations between the ex-Liverpool and Chelsea striker’s representatives and the club have been progressing over the past few weeks and the 32-year-old is eager to wrap things up ahead of the Champions League final. As things stand, Torres, whose loan deal from parent club AC Milan expires in June, is still unsure if the showdown against Real Madrid will be his final appearance for the Rojiblancos.

Diego Simeone gave his blessing for a new deal to be drawn up back in April, days before Torres scored and got sent off at the Camp Nou. Since then, the Atleti board have offered Torres a two-year contract – the least the number 9 is willing to accept – but some of the small print still needs to be ironed out before anyone puts pen to paper.

Torres has made it clear that the uncertainty surrounding his future cannot continue ahead of 28 May’s historic date with destiny. All the parties want a satisfactory resolution to the situation, however, there are still a lot of conditions that need to be fulfilled first. The homegrown talent is holding off on other offers as he waits for news from the Manzanares club. Reports suggest the Colchonero fan favourite is being suited by Chinese Super League and MLS teams. Nonetheless, Torres wants to stay at Atlético for as long as possible.
