Puyol: "I'm not thinking about going back to Barcelona"

Carles Puyol always said he wanted to play until he was 40, but a knee injury and the interminable pain it caused forced him into retirement. Although he is hugely popular with Barcelona fans, who have always admired his attitude and work rate on the pitch, the former captain said he has no immediate plans to go back to Camp Nou.

Although Barcelona is my home, right now I’m not thinking about returning to the club. I’m very excited about the company I run with De la Peña and Sostres and it’s a project I really enjoy,” Puyol said of his sports management agency.

Speaking about his former side, Puyol noted: “They keep demonstrating that they are winners, they are competitive, that they still have that hunger and last Sunday we saw that in Madrid. They have been at an incredible level all season other than for four games. It was a shame they got knocked out of the Champions League but even so, it has been a stand-out season. How many teams have won the treble? How many have won back-to-back doubles? All of that has to be taken into account. Barcelona’s history speaks for itself.”
