Dani Alves has confirmed that he is to leave Barcelona, with the Brazilian agreeing to join Juventus on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old's Juve deal also features the option of extending his commitment to the Bianconeri for a third season.

Alves is currently on international duty with Brazil as the Seleçao prepare for the Copa América, which gets underway in the USA on 3 June.

Alves, who is to leave the Camp Nou after eight years, celebrates Barça's league and cup double this season.

Move finalised subject to medical

Juventus are expected to announce Alves' transfer once he completes a medical, which he will undergo on his return from the tournament.

Alves, whose purchase was expressly requested by Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri, departs Barcelona on a free after eight years at the Camp Nou.

Eight trophy-laden seasons at Barcelona

He made 391 appearances for Los Azulgranas, scoring 21 goals, and won a host of trophies including six LaLiga titles, four Copas del Rey and three Champions Leagues.

Earlier on Thursday, Barça sporting director Robert Fernández revealed Alves was to depart, admitting: "I don't want him to leave but it's the player's decision."

Farewell letter to fans

And in an open letter posted on his Instagram account later in the day, Alves said goodbye to the Barcelona supporters.

"I've decided to seek a new challenge in my career," wrote the full-back. "Thank you for making me feel so loved."

Club say thank you

In a statement published on their official website, Barça paid tribute to the player.

"FC Barcelona express their gratitude to Dani Alves for the eight years that he has been at the Club," the Catalan outfit said. "His commitment to the Club and his good nature has captured the hearts of Barça fans.

"Now, FC Barcelona wish him all the best in this new phase of his footballing career. Obrigado, Alves!"
