Antonio Candreva is a serious doubt for Italy in Monday's Last 16 meeting between the 2012 finalsits. The midfielder was unable to complete today's session in Montpellier - the squad's second session in preparation for the Spain match; he retired to train apart from the rest after complaining of muscular pains. Federico Bernardeschi was unable to train for a second day but third choice keeper Salvatore Sirigu returned after missing yesterday's workout.

Should Candreva miss Monday's game, Conte has a number of options open to him - the most logical solution would be to for Alessandro Florenzi to be switched out wide on the right, with Matteo Darmian over on the opposite flank. Conte is expected to play with three centre-backs against Spain -  Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini, with Florenzi and Darmian dropping back as cover on either wing. Candreva's absence would leave Italy with less penetration in attack - the Lazio player has been one of the cornerstones of Conte's side, for his character, brute force and goal scorer capability.
