"If the Argentina internationals who play in Europe can do it, so can Cholo Simeone,” says Fernado Marín, manager of the Argentinian government's football programme

The Argentinian government has suggested a share deal with Atlético Madrid over Diego Simeone. “He could attend his obligations with his club and, on the dates of international fixtures, work with the Argentina side. If the Argentina internationals who play in Europe can do it, so can Cholo Simeone,” said Fernado Marín, the manager of the Fútbol para Todos (Football for Everyone) programme that the Argentinian government has asked to put the national football federation (AFA) in order. A similar proposal was made by the Portuguese football federation when José Mourinho was coach of Real Madrid.

Sampaoli and Pochettino also proposed

Marín didn’t only name Simeone. He also gave Sevilla manager Sampaoli and Tottenham trainer Pochettino as examples of who could take charge of Argentina in a share arrangement. “Whoever it is who’s chosen to direct the Argentina team, he could work partially with AFA and take the national side to the World Cup in Russia,” he said.

The problems that AFA has in finding a new national coach are similar to Spain’s. In Argentina there’s still no president of the federation, while in Spain, Villar has announced his candidacy for the UEFA top job without yet stating when new elections for the Spanish football federation will take place.
