Rio round-up day 2: Wind, Rafa Nadal and Kosovo debut gold

A bad day for the rowers in Rio today after high winds forced a cancellation of all the day's action. One boat capsized on the opening day.

All Rowing called off for the day

The second day of the 2016 Olympic rowing regatta was called off due to problems caused by rough weather, organisers announced.

The decision followed a day of difficult conditions on the opening day on Saturday, with some rowers complaining that the races should have been postponed. One boat capsized and several others were nearly swamped.

Van der Breggen bags gold

Netherlands' Anna van der Breggen won gold in the women's road race after out-sprinting Sweden's Emma Johansson at the end of 141km race. Elisa Longo Borghini was third for Italy.

American Mara Abbott missed out on a place on the podium after she was caught by the chasing pack just 300m from the finish line, while Annemiek van Vleuten was leading up until the 10km mark, when the 33-year-old Dutchwoman suffered a horrific crash.

Kosovo claim first ever medal 

25-year-old Majlinda Kelmendi of Kosovo has become her country's first ever Olympic medallist after she beat Italy's Odette Giuffrida in the final. Russia's Natalia Kuziutina took bronze.

China's Wu Minxia splashed into the Olympic record books on Sunday, passing legends like American Greg Louganis and her "big sister", compatriot Guo Jingjing, to become the first person with five diving gold medals.

Wu wins record fifth gold

China's Wu Minxia splashed into the Olympic record books on Sunday, passing legends like American Greg Louganis and her "big sister", compatriot Guo Jingjing, to become the first person with five diving gold medals. Wu reached the landmark through a no-doubt victory in the women's synchronised 3m springboard along with dive partner Shi Tingmao at the Rio Games.

The win establishes Wu as one of the great all-time Olympians and broke other barriers as well.Wu passed Guo to become the first man or woman with seven diving medals in total, and she is now the only person to win the 3m event in four successive Games. At the age of 30, she also became the oldest women's diving gold medalist.

Rafa responds

Rafael Nadal, playing his first match in two months, made the Olympics second round on Sunday with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Federico Delbonis of Argentina.

Nadal had been sidelined by a left wrist injury since the French Open but showed no signs of the problem as he set up a clash with Italy's Andreas Seppi.
