Usain Bolt speaks to AS: "My goal is to win. Always!"

Diario AS spoke to reigning Olympic 100m, 200m and 4x100m champion Usain Bolt after the Jamaican qualified for the semi-finals of the 100m on Saturday in a time of 10.07 seconds.

How did you feel in your first race at the Rio Games?

I’m happy. I’m happy to have got started, to get going. It wasn’t my best race for sure. I felt a bit weak, a bit slow. I think it was because it was the morning, I’m not used to running at that time in any championship. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll feel better, smoother.

"My goal is to win. Always!"

What are your expectations for the Games? Do you think you can win a third gold in the 100m?

My goal is to win. Always! That’s why I’m here and that’s the mentality I have when I go out on the track. The focus is to give everything, always, always my best. So tomorrow in the semi-finals I don’t expect anything else than going out and doing better than today.

How’s your mood? Are you enjoying Rio?

I’m great, really happy. But right now I’m only thinking about the competition and the most important thing was to get the qualifying round out of the way, to run the first race. Now everything is focused on the performance so I can do everything right up to the final.

What do you expect in the semi-finals and from your rivals?

"It will be exciting. Lots of guys running very fast"

For sure it will be a tough test, very exciting for the people watching at home. Lots of guys running very fast. It will be entertaining for sure. And that’s what I like, it’s good because you get yourself going and it inspires you to be as fast as you can in the final.

How’s the leg? Did you feel any discomfort?

My leg’s great, look! [Bolt points to his leg with a huge smile].
