Ancelotti: "Stability at Madrid means to win always"
The former Madrid and current Bayern boss talked to 'Die Welt' about his time at the Bernabéu and his new venture in Munich
Real Madrid exit: “It’s already known that Real Madrid let me go. In my final season we reached the semifinals of the Champions League and we were just one point off winning LaLiga. At Real Madrid stability is defined like that: To win. Always”
What does stability mean at Bayern Munich: “Bayern has its own history. It’s directed by old players. The club doesn’t have any debts and they count on magnificent sponsors. There is a family atmosphere and nobody has ordered that I win anything. I just need to worry about being competitive and staying in the European Elite.”
Attitude of presidents: “Berlusconi only ever criticised me when we played well. When we were doing badly, he’d day: “We support you, we believe in you”. Berlusconi knew how to motivate us and support us. Other presidents criticised when they had the impression that things weren’t going so well.”
Relationship with players: “I don’t like to deal with players’ advisors. They’re not my problem. I have a direct line of communication with my players. When they have a problem I hope they come to talk directly with me and they don’t send an advisor.”
Influence of agents: “The representatives have a lot of influence. Clubs have given them a lot of power. But it’s necessary to make [clubs] understand that people spend their money on a ticket or sit down to watch a match for the players, not for the agents or the coaches.”
Fame as a laid-back character: “There are two types of anger. The one that comes from the mind and the one that comes from the heart. The latter one I can’t control. When it comes, although it does so very rarely, I can only speak in Italian! I don’t get angry at players when they commit errors on the field, I was a footballer too. What makes me furious is when they don’t concentrate or are lazy or egotistical.”
