Real Madrid turn to CAS over Garay sale to Zenit

Diario de Noticias asegura que el Real Madrid acudió en mayo al TAD por el bajo precio de su venta (6 millones) cuando había una oferta mucho mayor del Bayern.

Portuguese media reports say that the Spanish giants believe the deal that sent Garay to Russia significantly undervalued him. Madrid received half of his transfer deal through a sell-on clause.

Real Madrid take Benfica to court

Reports have surfaced in Portugal this morning claiming that Real Madrid took Benfica to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) earlier this year over the transfer of Ezequiel Garay to Zenit St Petersburg.

Garay was significantly undervalued

Diario de Noticias states that the Spanish giants filed the case back in May but that Benfica are yet to be called to answer. The Portuguese side sold Garay to Zenit in 2014 for €6 million, three years after signing him from Real Madrid. Madrid received half of that sum (€3 million) thanks to a sell-on clause included in the original deal but believe that the final transfer fee fell significantly below Garay’s true market value. Bayern Munich were said to have tabled a bid of up to €15 million to rival Zenit’s.

Garay played in Russia for 2 years before joining Valencia this summer.

Real Madrid stated in their case that Garay’s true value was between €10 and €12 million, double the sum he was sold for. The defender spent two years in Russia before moving back to Spain this summer in a deal said to be worth around €20 million.
