Manchester City have yet another reason to boo UEFA
Uefa have decided to award coefficient points to clubs if they've previously won the European Cup, something Manchester City haven't done.
Manchester City fans v Uefa
Manchester City fans have several reasons to be annoyed with Uefa. They were enraged about the Financial Fair Play rules affecting their club, and even more so when the rules were changed, to help Milan according to the City fans.
Another good reason was when City were fined 30,000 euros because the players came out two minutes late for kick-off against Porto, while Porto were only fined the risible amount of 20,000 euros for their fans' monkey chants aimed at Balotelli. Yes, Uefa considered turning up late to a game a worse offence than direct racism.
Manchester City fans protest at Uefa
All of which have led to the Man City fans booing the Champions League anthem loudly and vociferously when it's played at the Etihad stadium.
And now the Manchester City have ANOTHER reason to boo Uefa's anthem, because European football's governing body wants to change how each club's coefficient is calculated (the coefficient being used to place the clubs into the seeding pots when the draws are taking place held).
Points for winning the European Cup
Uefa's idea is to give points to those clubs who have won the European cup before.Something that Manchester City have yet to do (their only European trophy is the Cup Winner's Cup in 69/70).
As Uefa say: "Historical success in the competition will also be acknowledged in coefficient calculation (points for previous European titles with a weighted system for UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League titles)"
And the effect on the coefficients will be notable: AC Milan would jump 16 places in the ranking, from under City to above them.
And what's worse for Man City fans: bitter rivals Manchester United, who have failed to qualify for the Champions League twice in the past three years would get a big boost, going from 20th in the ranking to 12th.
Don't expect the booing for the Champions League anthem at the Etihad to stop any time soon...
