Has Mourinho lost his mojo? he's lost half of his last 22 matches
Sunday's defeat at Watford worsened the Portuguese coach's recent run of results. Since his return to the Premier League, he has averaged a 45% success rate.
José Mourinho no longer appears to be synonymous with winning - at least if we look back over his figures from the last two seasons. In his 22 most recent games in charge, Mou's teams have lost 11, 50%. And if we go further back to the start of the 2015/16 season, the statistics don't really get much better; Mourinho has lost 45% of the 33 games he has overseen between Chelsea and Manchester United, out of which he has won just 13 games in all competitions. Not much to write home about for a manager who is considered to be one of the best in the world.
The 2015/2016 season didn't get off to a good start for Mou. Chelsea lost their opening game - the Community Shield to Arsenal. In the Premier League, there wasn't a great deal of improvement. After the first 16 games, the Blues were just one point above the drop zone, The Special One left Chelsea with a balance of nine defeats, three draws and four wins - in the league. This season, Mou's United have lost 56% of their games in the Premier League.
The Champions League helped Mou to improve his average: in the opening stage, the Portuguese coach guided Chelsea to the top of their group with four wins, one draw and one defeat while in the domestic Cup, his team reached the quarter finals. The League Cup is the minor of the three domestic trophies and while Mourinho has won it three times, it can't be assumed that it is a competition which features highly among his objectives. Last year's campaign however was a complete disaster with Chelsea eliminated Stoke City on penalties in the Second Round.
Manchester United brought Mourinho on board for the 2016/2017 season in a bid to return the team to its glory years in the meadium term. In the six games United have played in official competition to date, the balance is four wins (three in the Premier League and this year's Comunnity Shield) and three defeats (two in the league and one in the Europa League).
