Zidane interviewed by Dugarry
Zinedine Zidane was interviewed by Christophe Dugarry, the former Barcelona star, who Zizou shared a dressing room with playing for France, and who now presents a show on Radio Montecarlo, Team Duga.
"This is a bit of an exception this interview", said Zidane laughing at the start of the show. "I'm doing it for you".
As was to be expected, many of the questions focused on how things are going at Real Madrid, what it's like working with Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema, and the current run of draws:
Zidane interview highlights:
Real Madrid: I have an amazing group. We can win or lose, but the group is incredible.
Four draws in a row: We're struggling to get going at the start of games. We're looking for a solution. Right now it's difficult. I need to fix the problem. I think the problem is psychological, not physical.
Cristiano Ronaldo and the rotations: I speak to the players about the rotations. They're necessary because if you haven't played for a long time, you can't play well. It's normal for Cristiano to be angry when he's taken off and that's ok. He wants to play all the time. He wants to give whatever he can to the team. That's good. In my opinion nobody can play 60 games.
Benzema: He's been a little bit worried by a number of physical issues, but he's fine now. It's a shame because in the last game we had at home he picked up an injury. He played 25 minutes with pain, and that's tough at this level. He's got 10 days to get fully recovered. Benzema still has the ambition to be the best. He often stays late after training to carry on working.
Benzema and the French side: He wants to return. He's good enough to, but I don't want to go into that. He loves playing, he loves what he does and that's the main thing.
Enzo Zidane: We're not going to rush things with him. He's focused on what he needs to be at the moment, Real Madrid Castilla. The Segunda Division B is a level you need to go through, but it's not a division where you can improve. It's a category you need to leave quickly. That's why, if the side doesn't get promoted, next year we'll take a decision about his future.
Coach of PSG?: Impossible. Marseille? I wouldn't say it was impossible.
Signing Pogba this summer: It could have happened. There were conversations to sign him.
Working method: We record all our training sessions. I look to see if we've achieved our objectives or not. For the first three weeks I was in charge at Real Madrid, I arrived at Valdebebas [training ground] at eight in the morning and I left at 11 at night. I learnt from Ancelotti and Mourinho's good points, and also their defects.
