EL CLÁSICO

Ancelotti: "If we don't win, I won't watch El Clásico because I'll be crying!"

Under-pressure Bayern Munich coach and ex-Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted tears will prevent him from watching El Clásico if his side fail to beat Mainz on Friday.

El Clásico is a match that nobody in the world of football wants to miss, and if there’s a man who knows the significance of the occasion more than most, it’s Carlos Ancelotti.

Carlo Ancelotti

The ex-Real Madrid coach had first-hand experience of the huge fixture in the two years he was at the club, but these days the famously cool, calm and collected Carlo has other things on his plate.

Carlo under pressure

Ancelotti, who has come under increasing pressure since taking over the reins at Bayern Munich in the summer due to an uncertain start at the Allianz Arena, made his priorities clear when asked if he’d be watching Saturday’s Spanish showpiece.

“It will depend on our result,” said Ancelotti at a press conference prior to Bayern’s game away to Mainz. “If we don’t win, I won’t be able to watch El Clásico because I'll be crying.”

Indeed Ancelotti knows he’ll have good reason to cry. For the first time in seasons Bayern are not leading the Bundesliga at this stage of the campaign and, despite qualifying for the 2nd round of the Champions League, they haven’t been able to do it as group winners after losing to Rostov last week – something which hasn’t happened for 12 years .
