El Clásico round-up: Madrid edge stats, but Barcelona favourites
We take a look at some of the most interesting El Clásico stats, including the game's historic wins and goals record, the last time Madrid won two on the bounce at Camp Nou...
Madrid edge El Clásico wins and goals record
Madrid and Barcelona have played 232 official games against each other, with Real Madrid winning 93, Barça winning 91 and 48 draws. In total, there have been 770 goals scored in El Clásico: 391 in favour of Madrid and 379 in favour of Barcelona.
Despite Real’s position as league leaders and Barça’s poor home form, Barcelona are favourites with the majority of Spanish betting companies to win El Clásico at 17/20 on, while Real Madrid are priced at 16/5 (the same odds as a draw).
No six-point gap since 2003
Madrid haven’t played a league match at Camp Nou with a six-point advantage or more since December 2003. That day Madrid had 30 points to Barça’s 20 and ended winning the game 1-2 with goals from Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo. That season, however, it was Valencia who would go on to win the title.
Worst home start for 13 years
Barcelona’s start at Camp Nou this season (11 points from 6 games) is their worst since 2003-04, when they took just 8 points from a possible 15. That campaign Barça won just two of their first nine LaLiga games at home.
2nd consecutive Camp Nou win?
Madrid won in their last visit to Camp Nou (1-2 in Apirl) and could record their second consecutive victory at the amphitheatre on Saturday afternoon, something which hasn’t happened since they won four on the trot there between 1962 and 1965.
...and a chance to continue undefeated away run
Madrid have gone 17 league games without losing as the away side, with 13 wins and 4 draws under Zidane. Avoiding defeat at Camp Nou would stretch that to 18, a run not seen since Villarreal did the same in 2015.
