Champions League football returns next week with the final match-day of the 2016/17 competition. How did Spanish rivals fare this weekend in their respective domestic leagues?

Curiously both German sides who face LaLiga's "big two" in the last round of group stage fixtures also met up in this weekend's round of Bundesliga games at the Signal Iduna Park. It was a routine win for the Borussia from Dortmund after going a goal behind, Thomas Tuchels'a men in black and yellow rallied and a Abuyemeng brace plus goals from Piszczek and Dembele saw Dortmund secure maximum points in front of 81,000 fans at a packed Signal Iduna.

Bayern Munich (vs. Atletico, Tuesday 6.12)

After a recent wobble with defeats to Dortmund and a surprise 3-2 reverse to Rostov in match-day five of the Champions League campaign, Carlo Ancelotti's men have recovered their form ahead of the visit of Cholo Simeone's Atleti to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday. A 1-3 win away to Mainz 05 briefly moved the Bavarian side back to the summit of the Bundesliga only for RB Lepzig to recover pole position after the newly promoted side over came Schalke 2-1.

Just 30 minutes of the Metz vs. Lyon Ligue 1 was played on Saturday after the Olympique keeper Anthony Lopes was struck by a series of firecrackers hurled from the home support. The match official decided to abandon the fixture and the French league administration committee will now meet to decide of Lyon are awarded the points from the game.
