Tuesday's Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling appears to have ended any plans James Rodríguez had of leaving Real Madrid in January.

Transfer ban reduced to one window

Following an appeal by Real, the CAS has confirmed that it has reduced the club's FIFA registration ban to one transfer window, to be served this winter.

Madrid were originally given a two-window suspension by world football's governing body for irregularities in transfers involving international minors.

Exit dependent on CAS appeal outcome

Real can now sign players next summer but, having failed to overturn the punishment completely, wouldn't be able to replace any departures next month.

Los Blancos' head coach, Zinedine Zidane, is therefore highly unlikely to countenance letting James go.

James: "You have to look at your options"

The Colombian, who has struggled for regular action under Zidane and predecessor Rafa Benítez, was understood to be contemplating a mid-season move.

Speaking after Real's Club World Cup final win over Kashima Antlers - in which he was an unused substitute - he said: "I'm happy here, but I want to play more.

"I want to stay at Madrid forever, but you have to think about everything and look at your options. I have offers and I've got seven days to think about it."
