The case of 'Jimmy' remains unsolved
Bad news: The judge has shelved the case of 'Jimmy', the same Depor Ultra 'Jimmy', who was beaten and tossed in the Manzanares two years ago that resulted in his death. The police detained four suspects on the day but after passing the case by more than one judge, they can't find conclusive results against them. In short, the crime is now closed without culpability. It is a horrible failure of the system. However, Jimmy's family will take their fight to the next level of the judicial chain in Madrid. For them and all Depor fans, it would be a frustrating end to close the case without finding the guilty party. That irritation and frustration was felt during Deportivo's game last night in the Copa del Rey.
A needless death
This was a needless death. The Depor Ultras set a secret date and time with the Frente Atlético, on the morning of the day of the game. To throw the police off their scent and the avoid being tracked by the police, they took the buses from Lugo. The two arrived at the meeting place and the fight occurred, leaving two Depor fans in the river beside the stadium, one of them was 'Jimmy'. The whole thing prompted Javier Tebas to install measures that obliged and helped clubs to keep a closer eye on their Ultras. For One year, this seemed to be getting better but it seemes there are some who want a return to old habits.
Sevilla fans penalised for their role in Juventues attack
On the other hand, the day brought with it news that fourteen alleged suspects from Sevilla's Ultra group, who carried out a brutal attack on Juventus fans who were dining quietly the night before the two teams face each other in the Champions League. Within a few short hours, the police had identified some of the participants, nine of them being Sevilla members; they have already had their membership expelled. The severe and swift action of the police and the severity of the penalties are important, but still more important is any type of support or indulgence of these people. They don't do anything except sour the game.
