Marco Asensio, who joined Madrid last summer, made it 1-1 on the night in Sevilla early into the second half after a lung-busting run from almost his own penalty area.

Sevilla - Real Madrid

Real Madrid went into the break against Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium a goal down thanks to the headed own goal from Danilo. Although still in the driving seat in the Copa del Rey last-16 match - after their 3-0 win at the Bernabéu - a couple of goals from a high-energy Sampaoli outfit in the second half could have taken the game to extra-time. Not only that, but Madrid and manager, Zinedine Zidane's unbeaten record target of 40 games was at risk.

Step up Marco Asensio

Asensio slots home

The youngster from Majorca received the ball from goalkeeper Kiko Casilla's corner punch just a minute into the second half and before the 48th minute had ticked over the ball was in the back of Sergio Rico's net...with Asensio the man turning to celebrate. The left-hand side of the pitch was his sprinting lane and when closed down by Kranevitter on the halfway line he touched it passed the defender and then had plenty of grass ahead of him.

Calm finish to bring it level

The striker managed to outpace the returning defence, the previous Sevilla corner had them high up the pitch, and although closed down in the box he was able to escape and slot passed Rico.
