The 20 most expensive stadiums in European club football

Premier League dominate investment

Spain has three clubs, Real Madrid, Barcelona and, maybe surprisingly for some, Valencia, own stadiums that are in the top 20 most expensive in Europe.

The top 20 for the 2015 financial year includes seven English clubs, four from Germany, the three Spanish sides, two Portuguese and one club each from Denmark, France, Italy and Russia. Arsenal FC's Emirates stadium, which opened in the summer of 2006, remains the most expensive built to date, at a fixed asset cost of 689 million euros. Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu is sixth on the list, at a cost of 351 million but is third - behind Arsenal and Manchester City - in terms of current balance sheet valuation, where debt and depreciation are removed.

It's worth noting that with the massive revenue streams flowing into the Premier League in England, their stadium investment is likely to continue. The report does not, however, include national stadia such as Wembley.

The Uefa report also showed that in the last decade 48% of the major global stadium projects have taken place in Europe with Turkey (18), Poland (14) and Russia (14) undertaking the most major new stadium projects in since 2007.
