Zinedine Zidane’s injury worries continue to pile up with the news that both Marcelo and Luka Modric, who were substituted with injuries in the 2-1 victory over Málaga, could be out for three to four weeks.
Champions League opener in doubt
The Brazil full back picked up a hamstring injury while the Croatia midfielder suffered an adductor problem. Both players will undergo tests to determine the extent of their injuries but can expect to be sidelined for up to a month. If that is the case, they will miss league fixtures against Real Sociedad, Celta and Osasuna, the Copa del Rey return leg against Celta and possibly the opening match of the Champions League tie against Napoli on February 15.
26 injuries to 19 players this season
Zidane has been plagued by injury woes this season with 19 of his first team squad suffering one problem or another with a total of 26 separate issues including the latest blows to Modric and Marcelo.
There are also concerns over Cristiano Ronaldo, who ended the Málaga game limping after a heavy challenge on his right foot. The Portuguese will undergo tests on Monday to determine if he has picked up an injury.
