Xavier Estrada Fernández’s decisions in Osasuna’s 3-4 defeat by Sevilla at El Sadar did not go down at all well with the home side’s players or the club itself.
In the first instance Oriol Riera complained bitterly on the pitch about Estrada Fernández’s decision to call an Osasuna goal offside with the score at 2-2, despite the linesman’s flag remaining firmly by his side. “Maybe we’re not from Barcelona or the capital, but we deserve the same respect. We’re in the same league,” he said afterwards.
Official Osasuna complaint
Osasuna also lodged an official complaint against Estrada Fernández after the match, citing the offside decision and a possible foul in the run-up to Sevilla’s eventual winner.
Now footage has emerged of Osasuna players Sergio León and Robert Torres, as well as a member of the struggling side’s technical staff, taking Estrada Fernández to task after the final whistle.
"Wait until you see the replays"
“Put on your white shirt!” León was seen to shout at the referee, in reference to Sevilla’s away strip, while the staff member added: “Wait until you see the replays!”
Torres then hurled abuse at Estrada Fernández, pointing out the club’s precarious position in the league table. “Me cago en dios [roughly translated as for f*ck’s sake]! With everything we’re playing for, f*cking hell!”
Remarkably, Estrada Fernández did not include any of the post-match fracas in his official match report.
