Barcelona have confirmed that Aleix Vidal suffered a dislocated right ankle against Alavés on Saturday, and faces around five months out.
Vidal had to be stretchered off late on in Barça's 6-0 LaLiga win at Mendizorroza after picking up the horror injury in a challenge with Theo Hernández.
Operated on in Vitoria
The 27-year-old right-back was immediately taken to hospital in Vitoria, where he underwent surgery on his ankle, a club statement said.
Los Azulgranas added that Vidal is to stay overnight in the Basque Country, before returning to Barcelona on Sunday.
Barcelona "devastated" - Luis Enrique
Speaking post-match, boss Luis Enrique said Barça were "devastated" about the ex-Sevilla man's injury, but added: "He's in very good hands."
Meanwhile, several of his Camp Nou team-mates took to social media to express their support for the player:
Mucho ánimo y fuerza a Aleix 🙏🏾— Samuel Umtiti (@UmtitiSam) 11 February 2017
