Adidas has unveiled the official match ball for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League knockout stages and final, which is to be played on 3 June.

Dragon design inspired by Welsh emblem

The Millennium Stadium, currently known for sponsorship reasons as the Principality Stadium, is the venue for this season's Champions League final.

With this season's trophy decider to be held at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, the ball's design features a dragon print drawing on Wales' chief national emblem.

The use of the legendary creature, which is the dominant element of the Welsh flag, is inspired by the power and strength it represents in Celtic mythology.

In a press release, Adidas said that the dragon therefore symbolises "the ferocity of play meant to be shown during the final stages of the competition."

To be used in 2016/17 Champions League from 14 February

The Adidas Final Cardiff 2017 ball will debut in this term's Champions League on Tuesday 14 February, when the tournament's last 16 gets underway.
