Gareth Bale named as fastest footballer on the planet in Top 10 study

Gareth Bale named as fastest footballer on the planet in Top 10 study

Argentina - Venezuela: international friendly

Bayern-Arsenal live

A study to determine the ten fastest players on the planet has found Real Madrid and Wales superstar Gareth Bale to be the speediest of the whole lot.

The list, put together by Mexican outfit C.F Pachuca, includes three players from LaLiga Santander (two from Real Madrid and one from Barcelona), four from the Premier League (two from Manchester United, one from Everton and one from Arsenal), one from the Bundesliga (Borussia Dortmund ), another from the Brasileirao (fFlamengo), as well as an additional footballer from Liga MX (Tigres).

According to the study which measured players’ maximum speed over the past year, Gareth Bale is the fastest , reaching 36.9 kilometers per hour.

In second place appears the name of a player who is perhaps the most unknown on the list, Orlando Berrio. Just transferred from Atlético Nacional to Flamengo, the Brazilian club paid €3.27 million for the Colombian, and since he’s able to find a top speed of 36km per hour, it doesn’t seem like a shoddy investment.

Cristiano Ronaldo comes 7th on the list

No place for Iñaki Williams

The podium is completed by another player outside of Europe’s top leagues, but who often appears in these types of studies. Jürgen Damm, a Mexican of German-origin, plays for Tigres and clocks in at 35.23km per hour.

You’ll have to look down all the way to seventh position to find Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who often used to be considered as the world’s fastest footballer. Now 32, the Portuguese forward has slowed down a tad, finding a a maximum of 33.6km per hour, while Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is in ninth (32.5km per hour).

Curiously, there is no place in the Top 10 for Athletic Bilbao’s Iñaki Williams, who many have claimed is the Spanish league’s fastest footballer.
