The Ukraine striker appears to have exhausted his options after his ill-fated move to Rayo. Dnipro are in dire financial straits and Zozulya can't register for a fourth club.

Fifa have authorized Roman Zozulya’s return to former club Dnipro but the Ukraine striker remains in limbo due to the club’s parlous financial state, which prevents them from signing new players under a Uefa ruling.

Rayo deal

Zozulya moved to Betis from Dnipro last summer precisely because the Ukrainian club were obliged to get their high-earners off the books. After a handful of appearances for Betis Zozulya was signed on loan by Rayo in January but a backlash among fans based on the player’s alleged links to the far-right and paramilitary groups in his native country led Zozulya to cancel his deal there and return to Seville.

Zozulya cannot play for a third side in Spain due to Spanish Football Federation regulations and is currently training at Betis despite being registered at Rayo. He is also prevented from signing for a fourth club in Europe under Uefa regulations, having been on the books at Dnipro when the Ukraine Premier Liga kicked off in July.

Zozulya return to Madrid "if ultras apologize"

The player’s agent, José Lorenzo Jiménez, said on Monday that the only possibility of Zozulya returning to Rayo would be if the club’s ultras and supporters’ groups, who opposed the signing, “apologize” and make assurances that he will be welcome at the club but the groups in question have ruled any chance of that happening out.
