A regional tribute

Real Betis have presented the shirt that they are going to wear on the 28 February, Día de Andalucia. It is a specially-commissioned shirt with horizontal hoops of green and white and is in homage to the southern Spanish community. Betis normally play with vertical stripes.

The game at La Roselada is against fellow-Andalucian side Málaga - with just a point between them in the table at the time of writing - and, as is customary in the modern day, there's a hashtag to accompany their campaign: #andalucíalateenverde. The idea was initiated by the club kit manufacturer, Adidas, and the shirt will only be used for this one game, although is being made available for fans to purchase. The Betis badge is emblazened in gold above the hoops from the regional flag.

The green and white from Scotland

One of the team's current stars, midfielder Dani Ceballos, was pictured in the new kit which is similar to that of current Scottish champions Glasgow Celtic. And indeed it was the Scottish club that was the inspiration for Betis' colours with one of the founders, Manuel Asensio Ramos, a fan of the combination when watching the team during his time studying in Glasgow in the early twentieth century.

Original hoops. Back in 2011, Georgios Samaras had a penalty saved by Allan McGregor who played for their friends across Glasgow.

Upon its launch, the Spanish club took to Twitter to get a view from Celtic and unsurprisingly were given the thumbs up.
