It isn't even a year since Leicester City defied all the odds to be crowned champions of the Premier League ahead of a host of traditionally bigger-name rivals.
Leicester struggles see Ranieri given the chop
And the chief architect behind Leicester's miraculous charge to last season's English title was their manager, Claudio Ranieri.
But with the Foxes just a point above the relegation zone in the league this term, the club's owners opted to sack the Italian on Thursday.
It's a move that has generated no little controversy, particularly in the UK, where it's widely felt that the coach responsible for delivering the finest season in Leicester's 133-year existence deserved greater patience.
Mourinho: "Nobody can delete the history you wrote"
Among those to have voiced their backing for Ranieri following his dismissal is fellow Premier League boss José Mourinho, who took to his Instagram account to send a message to the 65-year-old.
The Manchester United manager wrote: "CHAMPION OF ENGLAND and FIFA MANAGER of THE YEAR. Sacked. That's the new football Claudio. Keep smiling AMICO. Nobody can delete the history you wrote."
Like Ranieri, Mourinho was also relieved of his duties the season after winning the Premier League title when he was fired as Chelsea manager in December 2015.
