The Real Madrid squad were met with a torrade of boos and insults as they arrived at their hotel in Naples on Monday ahead of their Champions League return leg against Napoli in the round of the last 16.
Champions League welcome for Madrid
After a flight of two and a half hours the reigning Champions of Europe landed at Naples International Airport with relatively little attention. But that all changed once the two coaches transporting the group to their hotel pulled up at the front doors.
Waiting for them at the Palazzo Caracciolo Hotel, which will be their base until heading to the match in the Stadio San Paolo, was a group of around 700 Napoli fans keen to give the visitors a veciferous welcome that will be likely be replicated 100-fold in the stadium. Zinedine Zidane and the 22-man playing squad departed from one of the buses with the club delegates and board members.
Abuse and pizza for Cristiano
Some of the tifosi pushed at the police cordon but at no time were anywhere near the players as they made the short walk between their transportation and the hotel. One Madrid chef fan did get through the hordes and appropriately welcomed the team with a pizza in tribute to Los Blancos' number seven, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Training for the match squad starts at 19:00 local time, in the Stadio San Paolo which is where Zidane will hold his press conference 30 minutes beforehand.
