Robinho talks Zidane, Ronaldo, Capello, Pelé and Florentino
The former Real Madrid player, famous for his exceptional skills, shared his favourite players and coaches from his time at Los Blancos and how he behaved badly there.
Currently showcasing his incredible skills at Atlético de Mineiro, Robinho, was interviewed by El Español and gave some interesting answers about his past encounters. The Brazilian spoke openly about his favourite players of the past and his thoughts on meeting up again with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
The ultimate mentor in Pelé
It’s not surprising that Robinho went on to have such a successful professional career. One of the all-time greats of the game, Pelé, was his mentor at a young age playing at Santos:
“When I started to play there, Pelé came once a week to coach us. It was an enormous pleasure to be so close to him, giving us advice and demonstrating. He taught me how to be humble, respect my teammates and work with pride. On the pitch he told us to play with a maximum of just one or two touches but in or near the opposition area we could do what we liked: dribbles, bicycle kicks, anything. He always told me that I had to be a good boy”.
Favourite players and coaches
The ex-Madrid forward was happy to talk about those he liked working with during his career and singled out a few.
“I had the pleasure of playing with teammates of such a high level at Real Madrid, including Zidane, Ronaldo and Guti…players that were technically spectacular. If I had to pick, Zidane and Ronaldo, great players. It was a tremendous time in my career”.
And on a preferred coach his answer was two-fold: Schuster, whose team played a lovely style of football, and Capello. But Robinho didn’t leave Madrid in the best of circumstances which he puts down to immaturity. “I was very young and explosive, today I have a different head on, another mentality. I didn’t behave well back then”.
A return to Real Madrid
So did this break-up affect the Brazilian’s view on club president, Florentino Pérez? It doesn’t seem so, not now anyway:
“I would very much like to return to see Florentino Pérez, give him a hug and thank him for all the nice things he did for me. Madrid gave me lots of good things”.
