Since Luis Enrique announced his intention to stand down as Barcelona coach come June 30th, speculation has been rife about who will replace the Asturian on the Camp Nou bench. Athletic's Valverde and Jorge Sampaoli have been two of the leading candidates linked with the position at the Catalan club.
Sampaoli no longer a contender
This morning 'Catalunya Radio' claim that Sampaoli is no longer an option with the Argentine believed to be looking at extending his stay at current club Sevilla. Sampaoli was the Barça supporters favourite for the role and also favourably viewed among members of the current playing squad.
Sampaoli saw last night how his Sevilla side were eliminated from the Champions League by Leicester City with the Andalusian side now focused on a league title tilt. Upon being questioned about his future at Sevilla in the Leicester media room, Sampoli stated: "I'm hurting and can only foresee my self lying awake with the reality that our dream is over".
