No love lost between Betis fans and under-fire boss Víctor

The coach has picked up 19 points from 20 games, the same number as Mel when he was sacked, and 9 in 11, a worse return than Gus Poyet.

Betis fans passed their sentence on the short tenure of Víctor Sánchez del Amo as they watched their team slump to another home defeat against Villarreal on Tuesday night, calling for the manager to leave. The board is also getting restless as the team have shown no significant improvement in terms of points collected under the former Depor and Olympiacos coach, to the extent that the Spaniard may be the next managerial casualty of the season.

As things stand, with Betis nine points clear of the relegation pending Sporting’s result against Málaga, Víctor will remain in charge for the match against Las Palmas next Sunday. However, if that game doesn’t go Betis’ way and results elsewhere change the situation at the bottom of the table, another change at the Villamarín may be in the offing.

Víctor's numbers worse than Poyet and no better than Mel

Víctor has so far overseen five wins, five draws and nine defeats at the helm of Betis, a return of 20 points from 19 games. That was exactly the same form that saw Pepe Mel sacked last season and replaced with Gus Poyet. Compared with the Uruguayan’s run of results over the last 11 games that Víctor has overseen, the Spaniard comes off even worse: nine points compared to the 11 Poyet picked up before Betis decided to dispense with his services.

While the fans were calling on Víctor to leave, other sections of the Villamarín were turning their ire towards the directors’ box. If the Betis board decide to do away with Víctor it will be the fifth managerial change in two seasons at the club.
