Lyon players attacked by pitch-invading Bastia fans

During the pre-match warm-up of Bastia's home meeting with Lyon, a number of home supporters leapt onto the pitch and assaulted the visiting players.

Bastia fans assaulted players from visiting Olympique Lyon just minutes before today's Ligue 1 meeting between the two side was due to kick-off at Stade Armand Cesari.

Around 50 fans broke onto the pitch as both teams were warming up and headed towards Lyon's players, even following them as they tried to escape back down the players' tunnel L'Équipe reported. It's the latest episode of violence involving Olympique Lyon - trouble flared between French and Turkish fans before Thursday's Europa League quarter final against Beşiktaş.

UEFA announced that they will be opening disciplinary proceedings against both clubs for the incidents at Parc OL. European football's governing body chastised the French outfit for  "insufficient organization" ahead of the match - even going as far as accusing matchday officers of allowing fans to enter the ground with banned smoke bombs and flares, as well as letting fans block the exit routes..
