Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future is up in the air after the Manchester United striker suffered a knee injury in the Europa League victory over Anderlecht on Thursday. Although the club have not yet made a statement on the Swedish veteran’s condition, it appeared he had suffered anterior and posterior ligament damage that could rule him out until next year.
Ibra could be out until 2018
ESPN sources confirmed that Ibrahimovic faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after surgery and may not return to action until January. The striker has been in talks for some time over an extension to his contract at Old Trafford, which expires in the summer but he has not committed to another year in Manchester amid interest from Los Angeles Galaxy.
Ibrahimovic had a set of performance related targets to meet in order to trigger a one-year extension to his United deal and those have been met but it remains unclear now what stance the club will take in light of the striker’s injury.
