Thiago Alcántara has renewed his contract at Bayern Munich up to 2021, the club said in an official statement on Friday. The Spain international’s previous deal expired in 2019 and he had been the subject of interest from former club Barcelona.
Rummenigge: Thiago "one of the best"
“Thiago is one of the best and most coveted midfielders in Europe,” said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “We are very happy that he has committed his long-term to the club and that we can count on a consummate professional.”
Thiago also expressed his satisfaction at signing a new deal. “My family and me are very happy in Munich. Everything suits us here. I hope to win many titles with Bayern in the future.”
Thiago was signed for Bayern by his former manager at Barça, Pep Guardiola, in 2013. In four season in Munich the Spain international has won three Bundesliga titles, two DFB Pokal Cups, a German Supercup, a European Supercup and the Club World Cup.
