Radio Barcelona: Xavi turned down offer to coach Barça B

According to a report on Radio Barcelona on Wednesday, former club captain and Barça legend Xavi Hernández turned down an offer to take over as coach of Barça B, a post held by Gerard López since July 2015.

Radio Barcelona said that Luis Enrique had given his blessing to Xavi taking the reins at the Mini Estadi instead of López, with who the Barça first team manager has a frosty relationship. However, Xavi opted to remain in Qatar where he plays for Al-Saad.

The report also claimed that López was appointed at the behest of Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and will remain in his job for another season if he manages to secure Barça B’s promotion to Segunda División.

Xavi to coach Qatar at World Cup 2022?

Xavi has yet to complete his coaching badges and may do so this summer. His contract with Al-Saad, who he joined in the summer of 2015, runs until the end of next season and he is one of the country’s main ambassadors for the Qatar World Cup and has even been linked with the job of national team coach ahead of the 2022 tournament.
