Frederico Pena, on of Vinicius Junior's representatives, gave an interview to Globoesporte and discussed the details of the deal that brought the youngster to Real Madrid. Pena said that Barcelona put more money on the table but the young Brazilian preferred the project at Real Madrid.
The transfer was confirmed after weeks of negotiation and Pena says, "If anyone receives criticism, it will be Real Madrid for the bet they have made. For them, they are assured it will work. There were other clubs interested and one offered more money."
Teams butted heads over youngster
Asked which team it was, Pena said, "Barcelona put together a more lucrative package for the player" and while he admits that the deal is risky, he says Real Madrid were not alone in offering top dollar for the player, "Many believe that it is maddness (what Real Madrid are doing) but they were not the only ones involed in the supposed madness. They are not the only crazy ones willing to pay for the quality of Vinicius."
And when asked why the player did not chose Barcelona over Real Madrid, Pena said that it was because "Vinicius liked the project at Real Madrid more. People get the impression that he made the decision based on financial situation but it's not the truth. I assure, the negotiating stance that Real Madrid took was better."
